Seminars with Anna Dalvi
Due to popular demand, we are bringing Anna back in February.
Anna is a Swedish-Canadian who lives in the Ottawa area. In her knitting, Anna enjoys variety more than anything else – from intricate lace to sprawling cables, and differences in colour and texture. She is the designer of the Mystic shawls and has just published her first book Shaping Shawls.
Shawl Construction - Intermediate
Find out how different shawl shapes are constructed. Starting with basic triangular and rectangular shawls, we make the geometry work for us, and use these building blocks to create new and interesting shapes. At the end of the class, you will walk away with the confidence that you can design a shawl in almost any shape. The construction geometry applies to other types of knitting as well (e.g. colour work, textured knitting), but we will focus on lace shawls. You will need to know lace knitting & chart reading.

Double Knitting
Double knitting creates a fully reversible two colour fabric that looks like stockinette stitch from both sides. It's great for scarves and blankets, but also cold weather garments such as hats and mittens. The two sides of the fabric is generally identical, but with the colours reversed. You will learn two different techniques for double knitting.

Wool-Tyme Lessons & Seminars
Entrelac
An interesting technique that creates an over-under woven look. Can be as simple as every square done in stocking stitch, or each little square can be something different. Once you know how to do entrelac - the possibilities are endless. Learn how to create the base row of triangles & how to pick up and knit the squares to create this wonderful effect.

Fearless Finishing
If you have knitted a sweater or two, but still don't feel in control of the finishing process, this class is for you. Working on a mini-sweater & swatches, you will review basic invisible seaming & then move on to seaming ribbing, & garter stitch. Learn to pick up stitches flawlessly. Seam a bound off edge & learn the 3-needle bind-off. Learn how to sew a sleeve into place . You will learn to make & space buttonholes. We will also review placement of increases & decreases, gauge & swatching, how to choose the right size, basic yarn classification & blocking. Come join us for 3 hours & conquer those finishing phobias!
Homework required for this seminar.

Learn to Knit
This 3 hour course is for those who have never knit before. Focus is on basic stitches & getting good tension. Troubleshooting & correcting your mistakes also discussed.

Knitting Refresher
This 3 hour course is for those who know the basics of knitting & want to expand their knowledge, or for those who haven't knit in a while & want a refresher. Techniques include increasing, decreasing, different methods of casting on & casting off, & basic finishing techniques. It also covers choosing a pattern & the appropriate yarn to make it. Troubleshooting & correcting your mistakes also discussed.

Have you seen the hottest fashion accessory ever in knitting? Are you a little puzzled on how that fancy scarf yarn works? Just ask for an in-store demo - it only takes a couple of minutes & if we've got a staff member available, one of the w.w.w. (Wonderful Women at Wool-Tyme) will show you. Patience please if we're really busy as it may take some time for one of us to be available.

Private Lessons
Learn the basics of knitting or crocheting, or cross-stitch! Do you want to learn a specific technique? These one-on-one sessions are great for learning what you need to know! Call and make an appointment for a private lesson & get instruction with one of our experienced staff. By appointment only.

Project Linus
We love seeing the beautiful blankets you make for the kids at CHEO. Drop off your donations of yarn & blankets here at Wool-Tyme during regular store hours. If you would like to help out even more, our Project Linus Volunteers meet the second & fourth Thursday of every month from 1 - 3 p.m here at Wool-Tyme, 190 Colonnade Rd S, Unit 2. Thank you to everyone who has donated yarn, or made blankets or quilts.
