One-Piece Knits

One-Piece Knits

By Margaret Hubert

“For many knitters, the biggest challenge of knitting a garment is sewing the pieces together, especially setting in the sleeves. Knitting garments in one piece eliminates that task.

Written by renowned knitting author and expert Margaret Hubert, One-Piece Knits is the only book that presents techniques for knitting garments in one piece from three different starting points.

This essential reference includes charted patterns for classic pullovers and cardigans sized from toddler to adult in four styles:

-        Top Down: Knit starting at the neckline, for both Raglan and Yoke styles

-        Side Over: Knit from one sleeve edge to the other

-        Back to Front: Knit from the back waist to the front waist, picking up stitches at the shoulders to knit the sleeves

To give knitters a wide range of yarn options, the sweaters in each style and size are presented in multiple gauges, from Lightweight to Bulky.

For even more creative possibilities, three variations for each style highlight alternate stitch patterns, colorwork, and garment details like necklines and sleeves. A helpful section on essential techniques offers guidance on the basics.

With One-Piece Knits, you can knit classic sweaters for the whole family – from every direction.

Book: soft cover, 255 pages, 4 basic patterns with 3 variations each

Blankets for our Community

Wool-Tyme collects yarn and blanket donations for the Ottawa area. We collect blankets for children which are distributed under Project Linus banner and we collect blankets for adults as well. The blankets are given to various charities around Ottawa including women’s shelters, charities for the poor and the homeless, and seniors in nursing homes.

Donations (yarn or blankets) must be new material, machine washable and dryable, and be free of odours (e.g. smoke) and pet hair. You can come and join the volunteers from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of every month (at Wool-Tyme, 190 Colonnade Rd S, Ottawa) to sew on tags, piece together squares, or make blankets.
